TIMELINE

Things to Remember

Here are a few basic terms that will help you navigate through KODEX Content Management System.

EXPERIENCE

KODEX has five available interactive Experiences: Timeline, Carousel, Mosaic, Grid, and Gallery.

COLLECTION

A Collection is the series of content that makes up your interactive Experience
(i.e. Birds of Indiana).

SECTION

A Section of Content serves as an individual moment of the Collection.

Your Dashboard

Once you have logged into your account, you will be redirected to this screen: Your Dashboard. As you will notice, all five available KODEX Experiences are displayed here. The Experiences you have purchased will be in an active state.

To begin adding or managing your Collections, click on one of your active Experiences. From here, you will be able to add, edit, and delete your Collections.

DASHBOARD OVERVIEW

On your Expanded Dashboard (as displayed above), you will see all of your existing Collections within a given Experience. From here, you will be able to:

 

  • Select a Collection to view/edit its content

  • Delete a Collection from an Experience

  • Add a new Collection within an Experience

  • Download a Collection Content Template

  • Create a Blank Collection

  • Upload a Collection Content Template

Add/View a Collection

There are two different ways you can add a new Collection. You can upload Collections by creating a blank template or uploading a Collection Content template (spreadsheet). Blank templates are used for small implementations.

See below for Step-by-step instructions.

If you want to add content a little bit at a time, creating a blank template will be the best fit for you. If you want to upload mass amounts of content, downloading the Collection Content Document will be the best fit for you.

CREATE A BLANK COLLECTION

  • Once you have selected an Experience, click the “Create a Blank Collection” button

  • Give your Collection a Title

  • To add Content, click on the “Add a Section” button.

UPLOAD A COLLECTION TEMPLATE

  • Once you have selected an Experience, click on the “Upload Collection Template” button

  • Follow the steps within the wizard to set up your Collection

    • Give your Collection a Title

    • Upload all Media for your Collection

    • Upload your completed Collection Content Template (spreadsheet)

Add/Edit a Section

Once you’ve created a Collection, you can add content by clicking on the “Add a Section” button. You can also edit previously populated content by clicking the Edit (pencil) icon.

ADD NEW SECTIONS OF CONTENT

  • Click the button labeled “Add a Section” found on the bottom right of the screen.

  • You will then be prompted to provide a some information for your new Section of Content.

  • Complete all required fields, then click “Next Step.”

  • Upload a header image by dragging an image into the box, or by clicking “Browse Computer” and selecting an image from your computer. Once you have uploaded a header image, click “Next Step.”

  • Upload all Media for your new Section of Content. Acceptable file types include images, audio files, and video files in the following formats: .jpeg, .png, .mp4, .wmv, .mp3, .wav

CHANGE THE ORDER

  • Click the button labeled “Change Order” found on the bottom right of the screen.

  • You will then be directed to a second page where you can hold and drag each section content.

  • Drag dated sections in the list to change the order they are displayed in the collection.

  • Click “Save and Finish.”

EDIT SECTION OF CONTENT

  • Locate the Section of Content you wish to edit on the Collection Home Page, and click the “pencil” edit icon.

  • The next screen contains the title, description, and all Media currently included in that Section of Content. From here, you can delete any unwanted Media and upload new Media.

  • To save changes, click “Save & Done.” If you wish to exit without saving, click “Cancel.”

  • If you cannot find the Content you wish to edit, use the “Search” field in the upper right corner of the screen to easily find and edit your Content.

EDITING IMAGE FOCAL POINT

  • Click on the “Edit” (pencil icon) on any image to edit the focal point.

  • Click and drag on the blue circle to adjust the focal point.

  • Check the preview image below to confirm that you have placed the focal point in the correct position.

  • Click “Save” when you are done.

Edit Collection Settings

After a Collection is created, its title and location settings can be edited by following the steps listed below.

  • On the left panel (Collection Details), click the “Edit Collection Settings” button at the bottom of the left side of the screen.

  • Edit the Title by changing the new collection name in the text field.

  • You can assign Locations by clicking the dropdown menu and then selecting the Location Names you want the Collection to be assigned to. If you do not see the Location you want, go back to the Dashboard and add the desired Location within “Settings” at the bottom of the screen.

  • Once finished, click “Save & Finish” at the bottom right.

 

COPY FILES INTO FOLDERS

  • Separate your Media from your Content documents

 

Add/Edit Screensaver

Upload images and/or select images from collection that will appear as a slideshow on monitor. A minimum of (5) images is recommended.

We highly recommend creating your own screensaver. If you choose not to create your own screensaver, a Default KODEX-branded screensaver will appear until it has been replaced.

ADDING A SCREENSAVER (Browsing Your Computer)

  • Click on the button labeled “New Screensaver.”

  • A pop-up will appear, asking “How would you like to create your screensaver?” In order to upload images from your computer, click on “Browse Computer for Images.”

  • On the next screen, either drag images into the box, or select “Browse Computer” to select image files from your computer. Click “Next” once you have uploaded all desired images.

  • Create a title for the screensaver, and click “Save & Finish.”

ADDING A SCREENSAVER (Selecting from Collection)

  • On the Screensaver main screen, click the button labeled “New Screensaver.”

  • A pop-up will appear, asking “How would you like to create your screensaver?” In order to add images from your Collection, click on “Select images from the Collection.”

  • This will take you to a “scrollable box” that houses all images within a Collection. Click on the images you wish to use in your screensaver. When selected, images will appear highlighted. Click “Next” when finished.

  • Create a title for the screensaver, and click “Save & Finish.”

 

EDITING A SCREENSAVER

  • To edit an existing screensaver, locate and select the “pencil” edit icon to the right of the screensaver you wish to edit.

  • On the next screen, you may edit the screensaver title, as well as the images within that screensaver.

  • To add images, either 1) click on the scrollable box containing current screensaver images, or 2) drag new image files from your computer into the box. To remove images, click on the image to remove the yellow selection box.

  • When you are finished editing, click “Save & Finish.”

You may create multiple screensavers for any given Collection, but only one will be displayed on a kiosk at a given time. To select the screensaver that will be displayed, click the checkbox to the left of the title.
