EXPERIENCE USER GUIDE

TIMELINE

General Recommendations

Below are best practices to follow when collecting content and adding design elements for your Timeline Experience. We’ve provided guidelines for character limits, supported media file types, logo/experience background standards, and screensaver recommendations.

  • Single user Experience

  • Aspect ratio – 16:9 or 9:16

  • Portrait or Landscape format

  • Resolution: HD
    (Landscape: 1920 x 1080; Portrait: 1080 x 1920)

Main Menu

1. LOGO

  • The upper left corner is reserved for a company logo (size should not exceed 350px x 100px)

  • To be uploaded by the KODEX Team

  • File type: PNG or EPS file required from client

If you're using a light background, a black or color version of your logo is recommended. If you're using a dark/black background, a white solid logo will be more visible.

2. EVENT PODS

  • Each circle can be customized with an individual image that will be implemented within the CMS

  • Title (required): 35 characters

  • Year (required): 4 numbers

  • Section Image (required): JPG or PNG

3. BACKGROUND IMAGE

  • Uploaded by the KODEX Team

For a more interesting screensaver, make sure to upload at least 5 images to give it a little variety.

Organizing Your Content

We’ve heard your content struggles, and we’re here to help! Follow these best practices below for a smoother content upload process.

CREATE FOLDERS

  • Start by creating folders for each content section (i.e. Animals, Flowers, Food)

COPY FILES INTO FOLDERS

  • Separate your Media from your Content documents

RENAME FILES

  • Make sure your filenames are easily recognizable. If they are very long or random, be sure to rename them before entering them into your spreadsheet and uploading.

  • Once your folders are organized, it’s time to enter content into your spreadsheet

Managing Your Spreadsheet

Uploading mass amounts of content is made simple with our spreadsheets. Click the button below to download the template and get started.

Spreadsheet is compatible with Microsoft Excel 2009 or later versions.

GETTING STARTED

Open your spreadsheet and confirm that it looks like the image below. Once you have the correct document open, you may begin entering in your content one line at a time.

ADD YOUR CONTENT

  • Open your Content document (if applicable). Enter in the Title, Section Image, Year, and Description

ADD YOUR MEDIA

  • Navigate to your Finder window and copy and paste the filenames into the “Media” column. This will eliminate any typos and issues while uploading your media. Make sure you separate your filenames with a comma and a space between each filename (i.e. Animals-1.jpg, Animals-2.jpg)

  • Once you’ve completed your spreadsheet, it’s time to upload your content to the CMS. See Next Steps.

AUDIO FILES

  • Click on the “Audio Files” tab at the bottom of the Excel document.

  • Enter in the Filename

  • If you want the user to see a Title and Description (so they will have context behind what they are listening to), enter in a Title and Description in the columns next to the Audio Filename. If you do not enter a Title and/or Description, the filename will be shown within the application.

WHAT ARE THESE ITEMS IN MY SPREADSHEET?

UPDATING YOUR SPREADSHEET

After you do your initial upload, you will no longer need your original spreadsheet. The hard copy will be saved within the KODEX CMS and can be accessed and downloaded at anytime. Any changes you make to your Collection will also be updated within that spreadsheet automatically.
