The following steps will walk an Administrator through the process of configuring a Windows 10 PC to behave like a kiosk.
Open the KODEX Launcher (if not already opened).
Enter your username and password.
Check the box “Remember me”.
Click “Login”.
Check the box “Install Updates Automatically”.
Click the button “Install KODEX”.
Check the box “Unattended mode”.
Check the box “Keep KODEX on top”.
Click “Launch KODEX”.
A computer running Windows 10 can be configured to automatically log in as a specific user, which is convenient if you want the computer to behave as a kiosk.
Click the Start button and type “netplwiz” to bring up the User Accounts dialog.
Select the user you wish to automatically login as, then uncheck the box “Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer”.
Enter the user password when prompted, and click “OK”.
Reboot the machine to test.
OPTIONAL: Click the link below and follow this guide to disable the login when the machine wakes from sleep.
It is recommended to use a Microsoft account that has a password associated with it.
Open the Start Menu and begin typing “Task Scheduler”, then select it when visible.
From the Action menu in Task Scheduler, click “Create Basic Task…”
In the “Create Basic Task Wizard” window that pops up, type in “Start KODEX Launcher” and click “Next”.
On the “Task Trigger” screen, choose “When I log on” and then click “Next”.
On the “Action” screen, select “Start a program” from the drop-down, and click “Next”.
On the “Start a Program” screen, click “Browse” to locate the KODEX Launcher, select it, and click on the “Open” button. By default, you can find the launcher here:
C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\KODEX Launcher
On the “Summary” screen, check the box “Open the Properties dialog for this task…” and then click “Finish”.
A new window will open. Click the “Triggers” tab, then click “Edit”.
A new window will open. Click the “Delay task for” checkbox, then type “10 seconds”.
Click the General Tab. Check the box “Run with the highest privileges”.
Click “Ok” a couple times, then you can close the Task Scheduler.
Reboot the computer to test.
When trying to locate the KODEX Launcher from the “Start a Program” screen, you may have to show hidden files to see the AppData folder.
The duration of the delay can be increased beyond 10 seconds if needed.
If the computer(s) are running all day, it is highly recommended to schedule a reboot task during closed hours, to receive the latest updates from the CMS and to allow the KODEX software to update (when updates are available).
Open the Start Menu and begin typing “Task Scheduler”, then select it when visible.
From the Action menu in Task Scheduler, click “Create Basic Task…”
In the “Create Basic Task Wizard” window, type “PC Reboot.” and click “Next”.
On the “Task Trigger” screen, choose “Daily” and click “Next”.
On the “Daily” screen, enter time you want your PC to reboot and click “Next”.
On the “Action” screen, choose “Start a program” and click “Next.”
On the “Start a Program” screen, type “shutdown.exe” in the “Program/script” text field.
In the Add arguments text field type: “/r /f /t 0” (without the quotes) and click “Next”.
Confirm your settings on the Summary screen and click “Finish.”
To test the task immediately, right-click the task in the Task Scheduler and choose “Run”.
This will prevent users from swiping at the edges of the screen, which by default will open the notification area when swiping from the right, or the Application Selection view when swiping from the left. Both of these options are undesirable for public installations. Follow the instructions in “Option 2” from the link below to make the necessary modifications to the Windows registry.

KODEX does not require any right-click functionality, so this can be disabled. Disabling this will also remove the visual “box” that appears when a user holds a finger down on the screen.
Press Windows Key+I to go to the Windows Settings panel
In the search bar, type in ‘cursor’ and click on any of the results that lead you to the Cursor & Pointer settings (ex: “Change mouse pointer size”)
In the Cursor & Pointer settings window, turn off the toggle for ‘Change Touch Feedback’
This will ensure that updates/patches can be pushed to the KODEX Launcher without user intervention needed.
Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security.
Navigate to Windows Defender and click Open Windows Defender Security Center.
Click the App & browser control section, scroll down, find Check apps and files and turn it off.
If Option 1 doesn’t work (usually on Group Policy machines), click on the Start Menu and type in the words ‘SmartScreen’
Open up the SmartScreen settings and click on Disable SmartScreen, ignoring the warnings
This will prevent the User Account Control from prompting the user when updates or changes need to be made to the PC.
From the Start Menu, begin typing “UAC” and click the User Account Control icon when it appears.
Slide the bar down to “Never Notify”, and click “OK”.
Windows LTSC (Enterprise) is recommended, but not required. This version of Windows can be configured to stop new Windows features from being automatically installed, while still allowing critical security updates/patches to be installed. Feature updates are usually quality of life adjustments to the OS, and are typically not required.
If LTSC is not possible, feature updates can be “paused” for a set amount of time in other versions of windows. Refer to Method 2 in the link below:

The following actions will ensure the computer is on at all times. This may or may not be necessary, and depends on the intended use for KODEX. If setting up as an unattended kiosk, then you should perform these steps.
From the Start Menu, begin typing “Power Options” and click the Power Options icon when it appears.
Set the values to “Never” for the drop-downs under Screen.
Set the values to “Never” for the drop-downs under Sleep.
If you’re having trouble configuring your Windows 10 PC for KODEX, our team is here to help you. Download and Install TeamViewer from the link below. This is highly recommended, as it will allow remote administration and support of the machine if the need arises. After installing TeamViewer, be sure to record the ID and password for future use.
